This VERY UNIQUE and SPECIAL Austin Healey Sprite is well documented and written about.Remember that lovely magazine Sports & Exotic car that Hemmings Motor News used to publish? What a great magazine that we no longer have access to.The car was featured as the cover car in November 2015.This article gives us insight to how this car came to be what we see today.In addition to Sports & Exotic it was featured in Healey Marque,the Austin Healey Club of America magazine.
The car had been a California car obtained by Bill Meade of Watsonville California,Bill did the build.When Bill put the car up for sale David Silberkleit,aka the Bugeyeguy in Brandford Connecticut obtained it, even though it was not a Bugeye he was impressed with the build that was done.From David it found its way to Nashville Tn. where it has traveled appx a thousand to fifteen hundred miles with club rides and beautiful paved Tennessee backroads.
The items that Bill did to make this such a special example are as follows:
Five Speed Datsun 210 gearbox making it a more relaxed highway cruiser
Built a 1275 cc engine to 1380 cc increasing Hp to 100-110.The build was done by mini specialists Seven Enterprises in Auburn California.The engine was fitted with a ported Longman-style aluminum head,Hepolite high compression pistons,Moss fast-road cam and a lightened flywheel.A Mallory dual point distributor fires the plugs,and a Pacesetter header and Monza muffler dealt with the exhaust.
The suspension was rebuilt with urethane bushings and a front sway bar added and the car was lowered by 11/2 inch.Braided lines and competition pads and linings made the brakes more capable.
Raydot aluminum racing mirrors were obtained.Knock off wheels were added for a more aggressive stance.
The result is a slow car that feels FAST!!
The car is in our indoor facility 25 miles east of downtown Nashville Tn.Independent inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
